Hello there, Human. I'm Julia, the creator and co-founder of the Hello There Human. I'm not a communication expert or a social worker or a therapist. I'm graphic artist. I spend most of my days hiding away in my cave all day in front of a computer. And as a declared introvert, I cling to my smartphone, my tablet and my TV avoiding eye-contact with the outside world. So for the most part, a majority of my social interactions have been online. Facebook gets checked daily, if not hourly at times—I have zero self control. And that existence can be very quiet and can be a bit lonely with so little daily face-to-face interactions.
The thing is, I do love to connect with people. I value heartfelt conversations and laughter with a good friend or catching up with faraway family or even those brief encounters with the occasional stranger in line at the grocery store or coffee shop. Yet, building new friendships or engaging in friendly conversation with a others is not always so easy. And, even more so now with everyone (including myself) on a device. I thought it was just me for the longest time, but now realizing there are a lot of us out there that struggle to create more human-to-human connections.
With so much focus now on the lack of face-to-face connections, increased social isolation and the need to open up the conversation around mental health, the Hello There Human mission hopes to inspire more human-to-human connections through awareness, education and most importantly, action.
