Hello there, Human. I'm Julia, the founder of the Hello There Human. I'm not a communication specialist, I'm not a psychotherapist or a social worker out to share my great expertise on why human-to-human connection is important. I have very little expertise in the field of human connection. Except that I long for more of it myself. As I'm graphic artist, I have spent many years hiding away in my cave all day in front of a computer. And as a declared introvert, I cling to my smartphone, my tablet and my TV avoiding eye-contact with the outside world. So for the most part, a majority of my social interactions have been online. Facebook gets checked daily, if not hourly at times. And that existence can be very quiet and a bit lonely in my world as a graphic designer hiding away in her cave.
The thing is I love to connect with people. For me, nothing beats a long walk with a friend and losing track of time and distance because we're immersed in great conversation. Nothing beats sitting down for coffee with a client and for a moment, finding ourselves straying from the project discussion and laughing as we share funny stories about our children's antics. And nothing beats a brief exchange of a sincere smile and a thank you when a stranger sees me with my rambunctious 4 year old and lets me in front of them in line. Nothing beats human-to-human connection.
Those connections seem more rare and becoming harder to create. And for the longest time, I assumed it was just me, but now realize I'm not the only one who struggles to create deeper connections with others.
We want this blog to be from not just one perspective, but many. We all observers and we here, Hello There Human want to hear from you. Please contact us with your observations.
